TTA Judging List Criteria 2024

Note; The lists will comprise of Breed Specialist, Non-Breed Specialists and Overseas Judges

Experience Required for the A1 List

Persons who have previously been approved by the Kennel Club to award CCs in the Breed and have successfully completed their first appointment. To meet the experience required and have the support of the Tibetan Terrier Association to award CCs in the Breed.

Experience Required for the A2 List (Includes JEP Level 4)

Persons who fulfil the requirements for the A3 List and who have been assessed in accordance with Kennel Club requirements, successful completion of JEP Level 4 Assessment and accepted by the Kennel Club for inclusion on an A2 List and have the support of the Tibetan Terrier Association.

Experience Required for the A3 List (Breed Specialists)

1.      Judged Tibetan Terriers for a minimum of 7 years and have the support of the Tibetan Terrier Association.

2.      Judged Tibetan Terriers at least 8 shows with at least 32 classes and at least 120 dogs present.

3.      Attended at least 1 additional Tibetan Terrier seminar whilst on the “B” List or a total of 3 seminars.

4.      Achieved a pass in the Higher Judging Certificate Examination of the TTA or TTBOC Judging Examination

5.      To have attended a seminar given by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer and passed the relevant examination on Kennel Club Regulations and Judging Procedures.

6.      To have attended a seminar given by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer on Conformation and Movement.

(a) To have attended a Conformation & Movement ‘Hands On’ Assessment conducted by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer and passed the assessment.

7.      To have attended at least one breed specific seminar run in accordance with the relevant Kennel Club Code of Best Practice and passed an examination and/or assessment where applicable.

8.      To have bred and/or owned a minimum of 3 dogs when they obtained their first entry in the Kennel Club Stud Book. (Save in exceptional circumstances)

9.      To have stewarded at a minimum of 12 shows.

Experience Required for the A3 List (Non Specialists)

1)      Judged for a minimum of 7 years in any one breed (to include 5 years in this breed) and have the support of the Tibetan Terrier Association.

2)      Judged Tibetan Terriers at least 8 shows with at least 32 classes and at least 120 dogs present.

3)      To have awarded CCs in at least one other breed.

4)      Attended at least 1 additional Tibetan Terrier seminars whilst on the “B” List or a total of 3 seminars.

5)      Achieved a pass in the Higher Judging Certificate Examination of the TTA or TTBOC Judging Examination or achieved a Credit in the Breed Specific Judges Development Programme. 

6)      To have attended a seminar given by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer and passed the relevant examination on Kennel Club Regulations and Judging Procedures.

7)      To have attended a seminar given by a Kennel Club Accredited Trainer on Conformation and Movement.

8)      To have attended at least one breed specific seminar run in accordance with the relevant Kennel Club Code of Best Practice and passed an examination and/or assessment where applicable.

9)      To have bred and/or owned a minimum of 3 dogs when they obtained their first entry in the Kennel Club Stud Book. (Save in exceptional circumstances)

Experience Required for the B List (Breed Specialists) (inc JEP Level 2)

1.      Owned Tibetan Terriers for at least 5 years.

2.      Attended at least 1 seminar for Tibetan Terriers.

3.      Achieved a pass in the Breed Appreciation Day/MCE (Multiple Choice Examination) of the TTA & TTBOC  

Experience Required for the B List (Non Specialists)

1.      Should have owned their own breed for at least 5 years and must be on a judging list for their own breed.

2.      Achieved a pass in the JEP Breed Appreciation Day/MCE (Multiple Choice Examination) of the TTA & TTBOC, or previously attended a Breed Specific Seminar.

NB. These lists will be revised when JEP becomes the only form of judges progression. 

Excerpt from TTA Rules

13. a) Judging lists will be drawn up annually in compliance with Kennel Club Regulations and Directives.

 c) Applications for inclusion in the judging lists may be made at any time during the year. They must be in writing to the Honorary Secretary and include information supporting and justifying the application.

The Lists are drawn up annually & presented for approval by the membership at the AGM.

THE COMMITTEE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO EXCLUDE ANY NAME FROM THE JUDGES LIST.

From 1 January 2021, no one can judge unless they meet the new Level 1 requirements.

Otherwise, judges can accept appointments either in accordance with current Kennel Club regulations (i.e. completely outside the requirements of the JCF) or with the Judges Competency Framework requirements (see below). In both cases, an exception can be made where a valid contract is in place prior to the date of this announcement (24 February 2020).

UNDER THE CURRENT SYSTEM TIBETAN TERRIERS ARE IN TIER 4 AND THE REQUIREMENT TO AWARD CCs IS 120 DOGS JUDGED, UNDER THE J.E.P. SYSTEM THE REQUIREMENT FOR LEVELS 3 AND 4 IS 60 DOGS JUDGED.

Level 1 (which applies to JCF and other judges not following the JCF system) and Levels 2 to 4 (which apply to JCF candidates only) are as follows:

Current judging lists will be valid until the end of the five-year transition period. Breed clubs/councils should continue to maintain their judging lists during this period.

Allowing for the fact that many contracts will already have been issued, the Kennel Club advises societies to use the following wording for shows held from 1 Jan 2021: “In accepting this appointment I confirm that I comply with the requirements of the Judges Competency Framework or Kennel Club Regulation F20b”.

Any contracts in place prior to 24 February 2020 will remain valid.

¹ A judge must meet the revised Level 1 requirements in order to be eligible to take multiple-choice exams at Breed Appreciation Days. Any MCEs already taken and passed will still be valid.
