Agility is unique and very popular and is the fastest growing dog sport around. Dog Agility consists of a handler directing their dog over and through obstacles using a mixture of verbal and visual cues, working as a team with your dog to get the best from you both.
Tibetan Terriers particularly love agility as they are very agile, they are enthusiastic, bright students who love to learn new things and can be trained well.
Agility equipment usually consists of: -
· Jumps
· Weave poles
· A Frame
· See Saw
· Dog Walk
· Tunnels
Susie and Lucie love doing Agility 4 Dogs!
My two Tibetian Terriers are Susie (white age 11) and Lucie (black and white age 5). Susie has been going to Agility classes on and off since she was old enough to do so. Lucie was destined to be a show dog and went to ringcraft lessons and won best puppy in her first show but then the pandemic intervened and she then found that Agility classes suited her temperament better than being a show girl.
When I got Susie wanted to have something that we could do together that was fun yet challenging and exercise for both of us. From the beginning Susie enjoyed this activity, her favourite apparatus is the A Frame, Dog Walk and See Saw. Now that she is getting older she is slowing up a little but still shows great enthusiasm for her Thursday evening activity. The bond between my dogs and I has been reinforced by our activities together
Lucie started Agility classes over 3 years ago while Susie was resting with poorly paws. Like Susie she is very enthusiastic but sometimes her excitement can divert her concentration and she is easily distracted. When Susie returned to Agility classes my Mum Caroline started running Susie while I ran Lucie.
Caroline says that she very much enjoys the agility sessions and has a great deal of satisfaction that Susie responds to her commands and that we have also formed a close bond.
